PRONTO Server ERSS 2.6 - Software Update Q100025
Originally Issued: January 13, 2005
Last Updated: March 27, 2006
THIS UPDATE IS OBSOLETE. You should update to version 2.8-SR1. You can update directly from version 2.5 SR7 or later to version 2.8-SR1. See Q100035.
This Q100025 update is intended to update Service Release 7 (SR7) dated July 27, 2004.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Version 2.6 requires both an updated software license file ("Pronto.lic") and
the use of memory-based hardware license keys supplied by AlphaTrust. Contact "support@alphatrust.com"
for these updated license files and hardware license keys. Do not update your software until you
have these items available. Version 2.6 will not work with version 2.5 and earlier license files.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: If you downloaded this update prior to January 21, 2005, please re-download
the update file. It has been updated. If you installed the Q100025 update from a prior download, please apply the Q100027
update.
Q100025 Corrections and Additions (since version 2.5 Service Release 7):
All Editions of PRONTO Server ERSS:
- Version 2.6 largely consolidates the changes in Service Releases 1 through 7 of
version 2.5 - improved speed, stability, security and new features.
- Document titles are now added to the return e-mail subject line when signed documents are
sent via e-mail. The title comes from either the "TITLE" element form HTML documents, the
"Title" entry in the PDF Info dictionary (for PDF), or the file name used.
- When PRONTO Server ERSS is run in "Evaluation", "Developer", or "Testing" mode, a non-commercial
use disclaimer is added to the signature block (HTML) or as a banner (PDF). See next point.
- PRONTO Server ERSS 2.6 supports licensing in a transactional mode, where fees are paid per document
processed. If you have a transactional license, you can disable transaction counting by placing the
software in testing mode. You do so my setting an entry in the "[PRONTO_MODE]" section of the
"ProntoConfig.ini" file. The entry is called "ProntoTestingMode". Change the value from "0" to "1"
to place the software in testing mode. Transactions will not be charged. If you upgrade the software
from version 2.5 to 2.6, you will need to add the following entry to your "ProntoConfig.ini" file to
support this feature:
[PRONTO_MODE]
;---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
; Set ProntoTestingMode=1 to avoid transaction charges (for those license types
; that have transactions charges. This will result in a "No Commercial Use"
; disclaimer to be embedded into the document.
ProntoTestingMode=0
- A new entry is required in the ProntoConfig.ini file to support administrative e-mails from PRONTO
Server ERSS to the system administrator. Please add the following line to the
"[PRONTO_EMAIL_NOTICE]" section of the ProntoConfig.ini file:
Admin_Email_Addr=systemadmin@yourdomain.com
Of course, replace the "systemadmin@yourdomain.com" with the e-mail address of the person who
administers the PRONTO Server ERSS software.
- PDF only: you may now specify that the signing date or date/time be printed on the signature page
in PDF documents. See Appendix M of the updated Developer's Guide for more information.
- PDF only: fully signed documents will now open to page 1 with default zoom factor. Previously, signed
documents would open to the page of the last signature applied.
- PRONTO Server ERSS 2.6 supports a new pass through authentication feature (Enterprise Edition) that lets you
syncronize your own login system (such as a portal login) to the "Users" database table. This avoids the need
for a second login to PRONTO Server ERSS when using the "registered" signature type. See Appendix P in the
updated Developer's Guide for more information.
- The product documentation has been updated in the \Docs\ directory. HTML formatted documentation is no longer
generated. All documentation is in PDF format.
The following are step by step instructions for installing Q100025 (2.6) over Service
Release 7 of PRONTO Server ERSS v2.5:
You must have installed all prior software patches through Q100021. In other words,
you must be upgraded to v2.5 SR7 before you can upgrade to PRONTO Server ERSS 2.6.
Service Releases are NOT cumulative. See http://www.alphatrust.com/support for more information.
NOTE: These instructions assume that your PRONTO Server ERSS software was installed on the local C:
drive of Windows 2000 Server or Windows Server 2003 in the "C:\AlphaTrust\" directory.
If you installed to a different location, change these instructions accordingly.
Conduct these operations when transactions will not be taking place.
- Log in with Administrator rights.
- Stop the following Windows 2000 / 2003 Services:
- AlphaTrust PRONTO Server Service.
- World Wide Web Service.
- Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) Service.
- HTTP SSL (Windows Server 2003 only).
- IIS Admin Service.
- Check to see that all six PRONTO... COM+ applications are not running
using the Component Services console. If any are running, then right-click on
all "Pronto..." COM+ applications that are running and
select "Shut Down". This releases these DLLs so they may be overwritten.
- Shut down all "IIS In-Process..." and "IIS Out-Of-Process..." COM+ applications
using the Component Services Console as in step 4.
- Using the Component Services console, delete all six "Pronto..." COM+ applications.
- Using Task Manager, make sure no processes are running whose name begins with "Pronto".
If any such processes are running, terminate them. Make sure to shut down
"ProntoServerSvc.exe" using the services control panel, rather than terminating the service.
- Run the "Q100025.exe" program and specify the root of the drive where PRONTO Server ERSS
was installed (i.e. "C:\"). This should cause the new files to over-write the
existing files. Make sure there are no errors on the un-zipping of these files.
There should be no file conflicts if all the steps above were followed.
- Look in the "C:\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Programs\" directory. The file "Update_Q100025.txt",
should be present and also present in the "C:\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Setup\Updates\Q100025\"
directory.
- Run the "Q100025.bat" file located in the "C:\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Setup\Updates\Q100025\"
directory. Make sure this completes successfully.
- ENTERPRISE EDITION ONLY: Run the "Q100025e.bat" file located in the
"C:\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Setup\Updates\Q100025\Enterprise\" directory. Make sure this
completes successfully.
- Using the Component Services console, re-install all six "Pronto..." COM+ applications
located at "C:\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Setup\Win2000\" or the "C:\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Setup\Win2003\"
directory (depending on which Server OS you are running). Do not
run these files directly, but use Component Services to install.
IMPORTANT: Follow the instructions contained in Step 6 of the new, updated
"AlphaTrust PRONTO Server ERSS 2.6 - Software Installation Guide..." for your operating
system, regarding the (a) installation location (the "C:\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Programs\" directory, and (b) the
Application Identity (run as the "ProntoServer" account). Do not accept the
default COM+ values for these two items or PRONTO Server ERSS 2.6 will not function.
NOTE: The names of the six PRONTO Server ERSS COM+ applications have changed from version 2.5 to
version 2.6. Now, all six names begin with "Pronto2...".
- Using SQL Query Analyzer (logged in with db admin permissions to the "Pronto" database),
run the script "Q100025.sql" located in the "C:\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Setup\Updates\Q100025\"
directory. This will add a new table to the Pronto database.
- Add the new section and the new entry to the "ProntoConfig.ini" file as described in the "Corrections
and Additions" section above.
- Restart the services stopped in step 2 above.
