PRONTO Server v2.5 - Software Update Q100019
Originally Issued: December 11, 2003
Last Updated: December 11, 2003
This Q100019 update is intended to update the Gold Release version of AlphaTrust
PRONTO Server ERSS v2.5 dated 10/21/2002, Service Release 1 (SR1)
dated 12/16/2002, Service Release 2 (SR2) dated 3/12/2003,
Service Release 3 (SR3) dated 7/21/2003, Service Release 4 (SR4) dated 9/02/2003,
and Service Release 5 (SR5) dated 10/28/2003.
Q100019 Corrections and Additions (since Service Release 5):
All Editions of PRONTO Server ERSS:
- Blank title and organization entries (via COM or XML APIs) are now handled
properly. They will result in blank entries rather than not appearing at all.
They will display as blank entries only if the "display" property(ies) have
been set to "yes".
- The use of the ASP Session object has been eliminated. You no longer need
to configure IIS to use ASP Sessions. This is helpful in redundant (i.e. Web
farm) multi-server configurations.
- The default e-mail properties in the ProntoConfig.ini file will immediatly update
upon change, rather that requiring a re-start of the AlphaTrust Pronto Server Service
and shut-down of the ProntoStatus COM+ object.
- The ProntoOpen25 COM classes have been expanded. You should now use the
"ProntoOpen25.ProntoRemote" class for COM development. The two prior classes
are still supported. The ProntoOpen25 classes now have their own executable
installation program to permit the installation of these classes on remote
machines (do not run this program on the Pronto Server machine). This installation
program is located at: "\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Setup\Remote Tools\ProntoOpen.exe".
Please see the documentation for details.
- An installation is available for the ProntoOpen component on remote machines.
This lets you use the COM interface to call Pronto Server ERSS from other Windows
machines. The install is: "\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Setup\Remote Tools\ProntoOpen.exe".
- The Pronto SQL database has been expanded and you must run the Q100019.sql
script to update the Pronto database (see below).
- The product documentation has been updated in the \Docs\ directory.
Enterprise Edition only:
PRONTO Server now supports the use of "mouse2" signature types for Acrobat PDF
and HTML documents. The "mouse2" type obsoletes the "mouse" type. "mouse2" requires
the use of the PRONTO Server Client Tools which may be downloaded and installed on
all Windows 32-bit OSs (Windows 98 and later). The client tools are located at this
Web address: "/prontosvr2/ActiveX/ProntoClientTools.exe".
The following are step by step instructions for installing Q100019 over any Release
of PRONTO Server v2.5:
You must have installed all prior software patches through Q100017. In other words,
you must be upgraded to SR5 before you can upgrade to SR6. Service Releases are NOT
cumulative. See http://www.alphatrust.com/support for more information.
NOTE: These instructions assume that your Pronto Server was installed on the local C:
drive of your Windows 2000 Server in "C:\AlphaTrust\". If you installed to a different
location, changes these instructions accordingly.
Conduct these operations when transactions will not be taking place.
- Reboot the machine.
- Log in with Administrator rights.
- Stop the following Windows 2000 Services:
- AlphaTrust PRONTO Server Service.
- World Wide Web Service.
- Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) Service.
- IIS Admin Service.
- Check to see that all six PRONTO... COM+ applications are not running
using the Component Services console. If any are running, then right-click on
all Pronto... COM+ applications that are running and
select "Shut Down". This releases these DLLs so they may be overwritten.
- Shut down all "IIS In-Process..." and "IIS Out-Of-Process..." COM+ applications
using the Component Services Console as in step 3.
- Run the "Q100019.exe" program and specify the root of the drive where PRONTO Server
was installed (i.e. "C:\"). This should cause the new files to over-write the
existing files. Make sure there are no errors on the un-zipping of these files.
There should be no file conflicts if all the steps above were followed.
- Look in the "C:\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Programs\" directory. The file "Update_Q100019.txt",
should be present and also located in the "C:\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Setup\Updates\Q100019\"
directory.
- In the Component Services console, locate the "ProntoUtil" and "ProntoOpen" COM+
applications. Delete these two applications from COM+.
- Using the Component Services console, re-install the COM+ applications "ProntoUtil" and
"ProntoOpen" located at "c:\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Setup\Win2000\ProntoUtil.msi" and
"c:\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Setup\Win2000\ProntoOpen.msi". Do not
run these files directly, but use Component Services to install.
Follow the instructions contained in Step 7 of the document
"c:\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Docs\Pronto Server Software Installation Guide.htm", regarding
the (a) installation location (the \Programs\ directory, and (b) the
Application Identity (run as the "ProntoServer" account). Do not accept the
default COM+ values for these two items.
- Using Microsoft SQL Server Query Analyzer, run the "Q100019.sql" script located in the
"\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Setup\Updates\Q100019\" directory. This will update the SQL Server
"Pronto" database with new and expanded fields required by SR6.
- Restart the services stopped in step 1 above.
- ENTERPRISE EDITION NOTE: If you have used the IIS Lockdown Tool and/or Urlscan.dll to
secure your IIS installation, you may need to edit the "Urlscan.ini" file to permit
the downloading of EXE files from your IIS server. If you do not permit EXE files to
download, then the ProntoClientTools.exe file won't be available to users. Please see the
document "Security for AlphaTrust PRONTO Server v2.5" located in the
"\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Docs\" directory, for more information.
