Q100002 - PRONTO™ Server v2.5 - Software Update

Originally Issued: November 18, 2002
Last Updated: January 6, 2003

Status: Recommended Software Update (adds functionality for anchor tags and "SIGN HERE" pointers).

UPDATE: This patch was updated on November 25, 2002 to correct an error in the original release of this update. The download file, Q100001.exe, is dated September 25, 2002. The file version of ProntoServer.dll contained in the updated patch is: 2.5.0.45.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You MUST apply the Q100001 update for PRONTO Server v2.5 before applying this update. See: http://www.alphatrust.com/support/Q100001.asp for more information.

This Q100002 update is intended to update the Gold Release version of AlphaTrust PRONTO Server v2.5 dated 10/21/2002. This update was included in Service Release 1 for PRONTO Server v2.5.

Q100002 adds functionality requested by AlphaTrust customers. It requires the reinstallation of one ProntoServer COM+ component as well as a modification of the PRONTO database schema for the 'Signature' table. Refer to the updated documentation on the AddSigner method as well as the 'anchor' and 'signtag' xml attributes of the 'signer' xml element for more information.

The following are step by step instructions for installing Q100002 over the Gold Release version of PRONTO Server v2.5:

NOTE: These instructions assume that your Pronto Server was installed on the local C: drive of your Windows 2000 Server in "C:\AlphaTrust\". If you installed to a different location, changes thes instructions accordingly.

  1. Stop the 'AlphaTrust PRONTO Server Service' using the Control Panel Services console.
  2. Stop the 'IIS Admin Service'. This is to avoid transactions from being processed during the update.
  3. Shut down all six 'Pronto..." COM+ Applications using the Component Services console (from the COM+ Applications node, highlight all six items in the right pane, then right-click and select 'Shut Down'. All six 'Pronto...' balls should stop spinning.
  4. Delete the COM+ application "ProntoOpen". Delete ONLY this application. There will be five "Pronto..." COM+ applications remaining.
  5. Run the "Q100002.exe" program and specify the root of the drive where Pronto Server was installed (i.e. "c:\"). This should cause the new files to over-write the existing files. Make sure there are no errors on the un-zipping of these files. There should be no file conflicts if all the steps above were followed.
  6. Look in the "\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Programs\" directory. The file "Update-Q100002.txt" should be present.
  7. Using the Component Services console, install the new COM+ application "ProntoOpen" located at "c:\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Setup\Win2000\ProntoOpen.msi" directory. Do not run this file directly, but use Component Services to install. Follow the instructions contained in Step 7 of the document "c:\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Docs\Pronto Server Software Installation Guide.htm", regarding the installation location (the \Programs\ directory, and the Application Identity (run as the "ProntoServer" account).
  8. Q100002 adds two new fields to the PRONTO 'Signature' table in the SQL database. Using SQL Server Query Analyzer, run the SQL script: "c:\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Setup\Updates\ Q100002\ProntoUpdate.sql", while logged into the SQL Server where the PRONTO database is located. You must be logged in with DB Admin rights for the PRONTO database. Make sure the script has run correctly (no errors reported). The two fields "Anchor" and "SignTag" will have been added to the "Signature" table.
  9. Restart the following Windows 2000 Services:
    • AlphaTrust PRONTO Server Service
    • IIS Admin Service
    • Simple Mail Transport Protocol Service
    • World Wide Web Publishing Service
  10. SPECIAL NOTE: Q100002 includes a new version of the "ProntoOpen25.dll" located in the "\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Programs\" directory. As noted in the documentation, this DLL may be used separately on a remote machine to create transactions for and submit transactions to PRONTO Server. If you are using this DLL remotely, please replace the DLL on that machine by using the following procedure:

    1. On that local machine, log on as an Administrator.
    2. Start a CMD console session and change directories to the directory that contains the ProntoOpen25.dll.
    3. Issue this command at the command prompt: "regsvr32 ProntoOpen25.dll -u". This will unregister the old DLL.
    4. Copy the new ProntoOpen25.dll over the old one.
    5. Issue this command at the command prompt: "regsvr32 ProntoOpen25.dll". This will register the new DLL on the local machine.

You may continue to use the old DLL with no problems, but you will not have access to the new functions provided by the Q100002 update.

Please login to download the Q100002 PRONTO™ Server Update.
