PRONTO Server v2.5 - Software Update Q100017 - October 27, 2003

Originally Issued: October 27, 2003
Last Updated: October 27, 2003

This Q100017 update is intended to update the Gold Release version of AlphaTrust PRONTO Server ERSS v2.5 dated 10/21/2002, Service Release 1 (SR1) dated 12/16/2002, Service Release 2 (SR2) dated 3/12/2003, Service Release 3 (SR3) dated 7/21/2003, and Service Release 4 (SR4) dated 9/02/2003.

Q100017 Corrections and Additions (since Service Release 4):

All Editions of PRONTO Server ERSS:

  1. Headers and footers used by PRONTO Server in all ASP pages that the user sees now function on a per ACCOUNT basis. You may create a new application space by creating a new entry in the ACCOUNT table of the PRONTO database. The ACCOUNT named "Default" is installed with the product. The ACCOUNT name that a transaction is run under controls the subdirectory under the "\AlphaTrust\Pronto\DB\" directory where the actual files are stored; controls the ASP page headers and footers; and controls the email name and address used in email communication (set in the ACCOUNT table entry). In addition to the header and footer being located in the ACCOUNT table, you may now store the header and footer as plain text in the files "header.txt" and "footer.txt". These files should be stored in the (accountname) subdirectory under the "\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Programs\AcctData\" directory. For example, for the "Default" account, these files are located in the "\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Programs\AcctData\Default\" directory. If the header or footer is in this directory, PRONTO Server will use that. If not, it will use the entries in the ACCOUNT table. If there are no files and no fields set in the database then no header and footer will appear.
  2. An error has been corrected that would not allow users using Netscape v4.x browsers to "Click here to sign" when using a "standard" signature type and an HTML document.
  3. Security checks have been added to all input pages to check more tightly for properly entered data.
  4. The "ClientReturn" field in the Signature table has been expanded to 1024 characters (NVARCHAR(1024)) to accomodate data passing through the PRONTO Server transaction to the calling application.
  5. A new field, "ThirdPartyData", has been added to the Signature table. PRONTO Server does not currently use this field. You may use it to store third party authentication data you may have collected related to authenticating the signer. This field is NVARCHAR(128).
  6. The product documentation has been updated in the \Docs\ directory.

Enterprise Edition only:

  1. PRONTO Server now supports the use of "live" signature types for Acrobat PDF documents. You may now capture a live signature using a Topaz tablet and embed that in a PDF document as well an an HTML document.
  2. PRONTO Server now supports the use of "client" digital certificate signing for Acrobat PDF documents. You may digitally sign a PDF document using an end user digital certificate.
  3. PRONTO Server now supports Acrobat PDF documents as a standard format of Enterprise Edition in addition to HTML. All signature types (except mouse) and all certificate types are supported. There is no longer a separate PDF Module for PRONTO Server.
  4. PRONTO Server now supports biometric signature verification using a Topaz tablet. A user may register their biometric signature template in their profile (in the Users table) and each time they sign using a Topaz tablet, you may specify biometric verification against the template by specifying "template" as the 'authdata' value and "registered" as the 'auth' value in the transaction call.
  5. PRONTO Server now zooms and justifies a signature captured through the Topaz tablet. This means that the signature will be justified to the lower left corner of the image and expanded if necessary to fill the height and/or width of the image. To control the image size, specify "live", "live-small" or "live-xsmall" as the signature type.

The following are step by step instructions for installing Q100017 over any Release of PRONTO Server v2.5:

You must have installed all prior software patches through Q100015. In other words, you must be upgraded to SR4 before you can upgrade to SR5. Service Releases are NOT cumulative. See http://www.alphatrust.com/support for more information.

NOTE: These instructions assume that your Pronto Server was installed on the local C: drive of your Windows 2000 Server in "C:\AlphaTrust\". If you installed to a different location, changes these instructions accordingly.

Conduct these operations when transactions will not be taking place.

  1. Reboot the machine.
  2. Log in with Administrator rights.
  3. Stop the following Windows 2000 Services:
    • AlphaTrust PRONTO Server Service.
    • World Wide Web Service.
    • Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) Service.
    • IIS Admin Service.
  4. Check to see that all six PRONTO... COM+ applications are not running using the Component Services console. If any are running, then right-click on all Pronto... COM+ applications that are running and select "Shut Down". This releases these DLLs so they may be overwritten.
  5. Shut down all "IIS In-Process..." and "IIS Out-Of-Process..." COM+ applications using the Component Services Console as in step 3.
  6. Run the "Q100017.exe" program and specify the root of the drive where PRONTO Server was installed (i.e. "C:\"). This should cause the new files to over-write the existing files. Make sure there are no errors on the un-zipping of these files. There should be no file conflicts if all the steps above were followed.
  7. Look in the "C:\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Programs\" directory. The file "Update_Q100017.txt", should be present and also located in the "C:\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Setup\Updates\Q100017\" directory.
  8. Run the batch file "Q100017.bat" located in the "C:\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Setup\Updates\Q100017\" directory. Make sure the batch file completes successfully.
  9. ENTERPRISE EDITION ONLY: Run the batch file "Q100017e.bat" located in the "C:\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Setup\Updates\Q100017\Enterprise\" directory. Make sure the batch file completes successfully.
  10. In the Component Services console, locate the "ProntoUtil" COM+ application. Delete this application from COM+.
  11. Using the Component Services console, re-install the COM+ application "ProntoUtil" located at "c:\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Setup\Win2000\ProntoUtil.msi". Do not run this file directly, but use Component Services to install. Follow the instructions contained in Step 7 of the document "c:\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Docs\Pronto Server Software Installation Guide.htm", regarding the (a) installation location (the \Programs\ directory, and (b) the Application Identity (run as the "ProntoServer" account). Do not accept the default COM+ values for these two items.
  12. Using Microsoft SQL Server Query Analyzer, run the "Q100017.sql" script located in the "\AlphaTrust\Pronto\Setup\Updates\Q100017\" directory. This will update the SQL Server "Pronto" database with new and expanded fields required by SR5.
  13. Restart the services stopped in step 1 above.
